Student Health and Wellness
At Nuview Union School District, student well-being and safety are our top priorities. We are committed to creating a supportive environment where every student feels valued, heard, and safe. As part of this commitment, we have established a Student Suicide Prevention Policy to ensure that students in crisis receive the help they need promptly and compassionately.
BULLYING PREVENTION
WHAT IS BULLYING/CYBERBULLYING?
Bullying is defined as the harassment of students through intimidation, hazing or initiation activities, ridicule, extortion, or any other form of verbal, written, or physical communication that occurs repeatedly over time. It causes or threatens to cause bodily harm or emotional suffering, creates a hostile learning environment, or disrupts the normal operation of a school, classroom, or school-related activity.
Cyberbullying involves sending harassing messages, making direct threats, or sharing harmful texts, sounds, or images via the internet, social media, or other technology using a telephone, computer, or any wireless communication device. Additionally, cyberbullying includes hacking into another person’s electronic account and impersonating that person to damage their reputation.

DANGERS OF FENTANYL AND OPIOIDS
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent. While it can be legally prescribed by doctors to treat severe pain, it is also manufactured and used illegally.
Illegal fentanyl is commonly sold as a powder, but it can also be found on blotter paper, in eye droppers and nasal sprays, or made into pills that mimic other prescription opioids. Additionally, some people use the powder in vaping devices typically meant for nicotine or marijuana.
Some drug dealers are mixing fentanyl with other substances. This practice is appealing because it takes only a small amount of fentanyl to produce a high, making it cheaper to manufacture and distribute. However, this poses significant risks, as individuals consuming drugs or vaping may be unaware that fentanyl is present, increasing the likelihood of overdose.
How to recognize a fentanyl overdose?
- Cannot be woken up or is not moving
- Breathing slow or absent
- Discoloration of lips and nails
- Choking or coughing, gurgling sounds
- Cold or clammy skin
- Dizziness or disorientation
- Pupils extremely small
If you think someone is having an overdose, call 911 immediately and wait with the person until help arrives. If you think your child is using fentanyl or other opioids, please contact your family physician or your school site counselor.
